Save to your city mapThe Burggarten is an extensive park next to the Hofburg, in the city center. After Napoleon destroyed a large portion of the cities' defences in 1809, the Emperor decided to convert the area into a park; one for the public, the Volksgarten, and one for the royal family, the Burggarten. After the Habsburg Empire came to an end in 1918, the park was opened to the public. It features numerous manicured gardens, monuments, and is the perfect place to relax in the summer months. Head to the Palmenhaus restaurant, situated within the park, for a tasty lunch.
