Save to your city mapA trip to Rome is not complete without visiting the Trevi Fountain. It was built in 1732 under orders from Pope Clemens XII, although historically there has always been a water aqueduct on the site which supplied fresh water to ancient Rome. The name comes from the Italian ' Tre via', which means three roads, as there were previously three major roads leading off the Piazza di Trevi. At night, the fountain is lit and it is a wonderfully romantic sight. Close your eyes and throw a coin over your shoulder into the water to ensure your return!
