Built on seven hills, the capital of Italy has a population of more than 2.8 million people, and lies close to the West coast of the Italian mainland. It is often referred to as the Eternal City and is home to the Vatican, an independent state in its own right, the Colosseum, the Forum Romanum, and many more historical monuments and highlights. The Tiber River flows through Rome and comes to an end just 38 miles further in the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Throw a coin in the Trevi Fountain and make a wish in imitation of La Dolce Vita. While waiting for your wish to come true behold the spectacular treasures in the Vatican Museums including paintings by Michelangelo and Raphael. Be brave and dare the queues because it is well worth it! After a day packed with culture, relax on a terrace with a crisp pizza and a gelato for dessert. Although Rome is not known as a nightlife destination, the Testaccio district has many great nightclubs. Or if you'd rather opt for a more intimate evening in a wine bar near the Piazza Navona.
