First opening to the public in 1869, the museum is now one of the largest museums in the world. The popular Museum comprises of 46 permanent exhibition halls and a collection containing over 32 million specimens. Well-known exhibition halls include the African Mammal Hall, the Milstein Hall of Ocean Life, and many Fossil Halls. The museum attracts around 5 million visitors each year.
