Save to your city mapThe Cathedral of Lisbon, or officially the Igreja de Santa Maria Maior, is the oldest building in the city. Built for the first king of Portugal after the city was conquered from the Moors, it was erected on the spot where previously the city mosque was. The structure has been destroyed and renovated many times over the centuries and as a result it displays an interesting blend of architectural styles. The remains of St. Vincent are buried at the Cathedral and you can discover more about the individual in the museum.
