Krakow is situated in the south of Poland and is second largest city in the country. It has a large market square which is the central point of the city lined by St. Mary's Church, and historic town houses with the Cloth Hall at its center. There are many terraces surrounding the square where you enjoy lunch or drink in the shade, and watch the tourist horse carriages drive by. The city is easy to navigate as the the entire Stare Miasto, or Old Town, is encircled by a green park, a recreational area where the fortifications of the city used to stand.
The city center is not particularly large and you can see all the major highlights in a day, but it has a great sociable atmosphere so a longer trip will definitely be enjoyed! There are a number of universities in Krakow, and the city is generally teaming with students. Climb Wawel Hill to see the Cathedral and the Royal Castle on the left bank of the Vistula River, before enjoying a traditional Polish meal in Kazimierz, the Jewish district, which is also where Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List was shot.
