The building was designed by Robert Rowand Anderson and originally opened back in 1889. It houses a number of exhibitions including portraits of famous Scottish figures including Mary, Queen of Scots, Robert Burns, Prince Charles Edward Stuart, Susan Boyle, Sean Connery, and James McAvoy.
