Budapest is the capital of Hungary and the largest city in central Eastern Europe with a population of more than 1.7 million people. The Danube River divides the city into the flat area of Pest and the older hilly section of Buda. There is a small islet in the middle of the river, Margaret Island, which is referred to locally as Lover's Island as it is a popular spot for the young people of the city!
Discover the Old Town of Buda by walking through its winding streets and historic architecture, visiting the highlights of the Fisherman's Bastion and the Matthias Church. The Romans originally settled in the area to make use of the thermal springs, so visit the Rudas Baths or the Széchenyi Baths for a relaxing afternoon after a busy day sight-seeing! For an excellent traditional coffee, try the Gerbeaud Café near the main shopping street, Vaci utca, in downtown Budapest.
