Save to your city mapMuseum Island is a famous site for culture located in the Spree River, in the heart of Berlin-Mitte. The historical site owes its name to the presence of five internationally renowned museums on the northern side of the island. The history of Museum Island dates back to 1830 with the completion of the Altes Museum. Other museums established on Museum Island include the Neues Museum, the Alte Nationalgalerie, the Bode Museum, and the Pergamon Museum. The Egyptian Museum of Berlin also forms part of the Neues Museum and exhibits a significant collection of Ancient Egyptian objects. Due to its huge cultural value, Museum Island's complex was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1999. The treasured island is one of the most visited sights in the city and is also home to the Berlin Cathedral, also known as the Berliner Dom. Museum Island can be accessed via Palace Bridge located on the Unter den Linden or via the Bodestraße which is next to the German Historical Museum.
